I have been watching a house that came on the market here almost two years ago. It was built in 1881 by Jacob Hyman, one of the pioneer Jewish merchants in Folsom, California. I recently discovered the original 1862 deed of property from another Jewish merchant, Joseph Fiel, to the Folsom Hebrew Benevolent Society for burial grounds, and Jacob Hyman's name is on the handwritten deed as a trustee. He lived in Folsom his entire adult life, and is buried in what was the local Jewish cemetery.
The house has just dropped in price. It is sited on almost 1/2 acre, has an interior area of almost 5,000 sq.ft. on two floors, and is located on a commercially zoned street. I would so much love to see it turned into a Museum of the Jews of the Gold Rush. To that end I am seeking individuals who could form a consortium to establish a foundation, purchase the building, and fund a museum.
Any ideas or connections are welcome!
Thanks so much,
Victoria

Nice post, Victoria. I am enjoying your blog from my desk at the Magnes. I am increasingly surrounded by boxes, but that's moving for you!
